For Construction and ReStore: Registration is required, and you must be available for the entire shift. Full day and half-day shifts are available for homebuyers and one guest per day. To schedule yourself, choose one shift. To schedule yourself and a guest, add a second shift (at the same time and location).
For speaking opportunities, or to schedule your friends and family day (6 guests), contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Ken Braley at kbraley@rochesterhabitat.org or 585-435-7252.
Be sure to take some photos and tag us @RocHabitat or email them to kbraley@rochesterhabitat.org!
Habitat ReStore Volunteering:
Be flexible and prepared to work. We ask volunteers to be flexible and prepared for a good day's work, no matter the task. This may include assisting with: customer service, donation pick-ups, unloading and cleaning donations, organizing store shelves and displays, retail housekeeping and cleaning (including storefront and parking lot), and more. Ability to lift 20+ pounds is very helpful for most ReStore volunteering, but there are opportunities that do not require lifting.
Upon arriving, please sign-in! Signing in is necessary to be covered by our secondary insurance, to confirm sweat-equity hours.
Age restriction: 14-17 year-old volunteers can work at Habitat ReStore only after submitting a parental permission form.
Schedule: Volunteer shifts at ReStore are generally available Monday through Saturday. Each day has a three hour morning shift, and a three hour afternoon shift; and a volunteer can sign-up for both shifts if they prefer. Volunteers must be available for the entire shift.
Attire: ReStore volunteering includes a warehouse and some truck unloading so be prepared to get dirty. You may also be going between inside and outside, so dress for the weather. A solid colored top, sneakers or work boots are required. Jeans are recommended and any shorts must be knee length (denim or cargo are acceptable). No tank tops, sandals or flip flops, you will be sent home.
Weather: We work year-round as long as conditions are safe. For issues of inclement weather, Habitat ReStore volunteering will close when the Rochester City School District closes.
